Trust between generations in Mathare has been worn down by years of blame: adults see idle youth, young people see leaders who never listen. Community Dialogues bring the two sides into the same room. Convened and facilitated by young people, these sessions gather elders, parents, chiefs, local administration, teachers and youth to tackle issues that affect everyone, from safety and drug use to sanitation and access to opportunity. Solutions come from the community itself, and young people leave the table as recognised partners rather than the subject of complaint.
